Social Cohesion Survey

The objective of the Social Cohesion Survey is to gather a view of the state of key aspects of social cohesion in Curaçao.  Social cohesion refers to the state of the citizens of a country with regards to feelings of togetherness, mutual commitment and feelings of responsibility towards the community.  More specifically, this survey provides insight into whether the society works towards the well-being of all its members, promotes inclusion, creates social envolvement, stimulates participation, promotes trust, and offers its members the opportunity of upward mobility.

The information gathered through this survey is important and relevant for the general population of Curaçao as it provides a reflection of how the society is doing. This information is especially relevant for students, policymakers, news reporters and politicians as this survey is able to provide them with data on which to base their work on.

The data is gathered by means of a stratified random sample that was drawn from the household in the population registry of Curaçao (“Kranshi”). A total of 3600 households were selected to participate in the survey of which a total 2626 households actually participated. This survey will be repeated within a 5 year interval.

The first results of this survey  can be downloaded free from the CBS website: Statistical Information/Social Cohesion.
